Teachers threaten industrial action over ignored salary increment demands

The teachers Union (UNATU) countrywide has unanimously resolved to enter into an industrial action effective 20th May 2019 if there is no satisfactory feedback on issues pertaining to teachers salary increment for FY 2019/20.

According to UNATU General Secretary Filbert Baguma Bates ,government plans to enhance salaries of civil servants but increments planned for teachers are far from what was agreed upon in the collective bargaining agreement with government.

Baguma says that it is unfortunate that the teachers issues particularly those concerning salary increment have turned into a song in auto replay.

He noted that UNATU is still open for further negotiation because ie money can be found for increasing members of parliament citing rising costs of living and inflation ,the same can be done for teacher in whose hands lies the burden of delivering quality education.
