UJA president charged and granted bail

The president of the Uganda Journalists Association (UJA) Bashir Kazibwe has been charged with allegedly defaming a city pastor.

Buganda road court grade one magistrate Robert Mukanza charged Kazibwe together with Thomas Bagonza, Beatrice Nabwiire and Hassan Ssegawa

These are all residents of Kimwanyi zone in Katanga Makerere within Kampala city .

They however all pleaded not guilty to the charge .

These are accused of damaging the name and reputation of pastor David Walugembe of External Gospel Church in Kimwanyi Katanga.

They have however been released on a four million non- cash bail with court Issuing a gag order against Kazibwe and his co-accused against commenting on the matter until court is disposed off.

Prosecution led by Patricia Cingitho states that on the 5th of January 2019, Kazibwe Bashir and his co accused in areas of Katanga near industrial area Kampala spread information damaging Pastor Walugembe Daniel's name whom they accused of forcefully grabbing their land .

They have been ordered to return to court on the 29th of March 2019 as investigations into the case continues.
