UNEB, police closely watching certain school as PLE draws close

Uganda National Examinations Board-UNEB and Police have identified more than 80 primary schools in Central Region believed to be in the habit of cheating Primary Leaving Examinations-PLE.

This comes barely two days to the start of the Primary leaving Examinations. More than 600,000 candidates are expected to seat their PLE on November 2nd and 3rd 2016.

Ishanga Katungi, the head of Police National Examination Monitoring Unit, says they have raised the level of monitoring and intelligence at the listed schools.

Katungi says, "The list will not be released to the public as it may affect candidates in the schools." While the list has remained confidential, URN has learnt that more than 70% of the schools are found in Kampala, Wakiso and Mukono Districts.

In 2015, UNEB withheld results of 909 results candidates from different schools around the country for alleged malpractice.

While no center was cancelled as a results of the malpractice, the then Education Minister,  Jescica Alupo, said the ministry would institute tough measures for all schools involved in cheating or assisting their candidates to cheat.
