Virtual University of Uganda (VUU), one of Sub-Saharan Africa’s first fully online university and Uganda’s only fully online University has conferred 20 candidates with awards for successfully completing courses studied.
The Guest of Honor, Dr. Peter Ndemere, Executive Secretary National Council for Science and Technology hailed VUU for leading the innovation in the Post Graduate Education space. He thanked the founders of the institution and its current ownership for significantly investing and this remarkable endeavor to improve access to quality education. Dr Ndemere pledged the full support of the Uganda National Council for Science and Technology and highlighted that they are ready to collaborate with VUU especially in areas of research and innovation.
Lady Justice Flavia Senoga, the Chancellor of VUU thanked the graduands for their ability to learn with minimal supervision highlighting that VUU is passionate about providing quality education that is affordable and convenient. She added that the growth of VUU to 15 countries and 3 continents shows that the time for online education is now.
Dr. Ham Mukasa-Mulira, the incoming Chairman of VUU’s University Governing Council said that VUU is committed to developing and delivering excellent education programmes tailored to deliver and churn world-class business and institutional leaders equipped to grow organizations and meet the needs of the ever- changing business environment.
“Our end goal is to help support government and industry in Sub-Saharan Africa achieve their business and corporate development agendas by providing relevant high-quality education resultant of offering the right curriculum”
Prof. Everd Maniple, the Vice Chancellor, VUU noted that VUU offers programmes meant to equip the graduates with skill sets that transform them into innovative, competitive, and decisive leaders in their professional fields. Prof.Maniple said, “Since the advent of technology, unprecedented changes have taken place, ultimately changing how businesses and organizations operate and interact with their numerous stakeholders,” adding that, “Those organizations that do not embrace and respond to these changes will not live to see their future.”
He further said that that It is this impact of technology that has influenced the evolution in human behavior, trends in the general business environment, rapid economic transformation that Virtual University has prepared the graduands for expressing optimist that graduands would be useful to the different organizations they work for.
Virtual University of Uganda has held up to 4 graduations since it commenced operations in 2011. VUU provides high quality, world-class post-graduate education at Master’s degree, Diploma and Certificate levels using a user-friendly online learning platform which enables students to advance their education and careers without leaving their work, home or country. Study times are based on student preference to allow them keep their jobs and study while earning and staying with their loved ones.
