Woman fined 300,000UGX for faking own kidnap

A 23year old woman who faked her own kidnap has been ordered to pay a 300,000 shilling fine or failure to do so be jailed for one year in Luzira prison.
On the 31st of May,  Amina Mirembe a resident of Kinawataka in Nakawa division in Kampala was charged with  giving false information to police and she pleaded guilty to the charge.
However while being sentenced by city hall court grade one magistrate Patrick Talisuna, Mirembe amazed court when she revealed that she faked her own kidnap to test her husband's love and begged for forgiveness.
The magistrate then have her a non custodial sentence ruling that she wa remorseful and had promised to never commit the crime again.
The magistrate also declined submissions from state that had asked court to hand Mirembe a deterrent sentence to would be future offenders.
Prosecution led by Lydia Batiibwe states that, Mirembe on May 26th 2018 at Ntinda in Kampala gave to C/ASP Moses Acaye false information that she was kidnapped and that the kidnappers were demanding 500,000 shillings as ransom.

Prosecution insists that Mirembe's acts caused C/ASP Acaye to devote his time and services to investigate such fake information.
