Mukono Municipality Member of Parliament Betty Namboze Bakireke has noted that there is no politics behind her decision to champion the Alcohol drinks control bill 2016 as some members of parliament alleging.
While meeting members of civil society groups that are advocating and fighting for alcohol abuse in the country, Namboze says some members of parliament are spreading rumors that Dr. Besigye Kizza is behind this Bill with aim of sabotaging country’s economy by reducing revenues that Uganda alcohol association is paying through taxes.
Nambozze added that, the bill intends to address and end the harmful use of alcohol and is not targeting any person or alcohol company.
According to her, she is set to begin meeting cultural readers, religious readers,civil society organizations, members of the public, and her counterpart in parliament especially those opposing the bill to educating them the importance of the bill to ensure the bill be acted into the law by the 10th parliament.
