The Director of Criminal Investigations Department Major Tom Magambo has revealed that they are at the verge of identifying the criminals who hired the assassins of murdered Senior State Attorney Joan Kagezi Namazzi in 2015, in Kiwatule, a Kampala suburb.
Magambo revealed this at the annual Joan Kagezi Memorial Lecture held in Kololo Independence Grounds in honor of her memory that was officiated by president Museveni.
Speaking at the said function, President Museveni also revealed that all the suspects in the said murder who are linked to rebel group, the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) are either in police custody or killed in the Democratic Republic of Congo under their terrorist organization the Allied Democratic Forces.
President Museveni noted that Joan Kagezi who was murdered on the 30th of March 2015 and was prosecuting the 2011 twin bombings that left over 70 people dead will have her legacy leave on because she lived a noble life.
He further called upon Ugandans to emulate late Joan Kagezi and think about the legacy they want to leave behind when death comes.
He praised the late Joan Kagezi's children for not abusing the opportunity of studying that was granted to them by the government.
The Chief Justice Alfonse Owiny-Dollo, who was presiding over the said terror case at the time of Joan Kagezi's assassination told the guests that despite having suspects in the said murder, those arrested remain suspects until proved guilty .
“If the evidence does not meet the required standard, they will be released. So my sister you have your work cut out for you that these aspects will be subjected to the due process".
He urged the Director of Public Prosecutions Jane Frances Abodo to handle the said case with all the necessary due court process to ensure that only the guilty ones with sufficient evidence showing their participation in the said murder are convicted and punished.
Justice Dollo condemned the killers of Kagezi for not only taking away her life but doing so in the presence of her child calling it 'unthinkable', in the African cultural setting.
The DPP told the president that currently, they lack enough prosecutors and are in need of 450 of them to be able to efficiently carry out their work with 103 courts across the country having no permanent Prosecutors on top of having no security to protect them.
Other problems she cried out to president Museveni include; the ever increasing number of land crimes in the country which leaves the vulnerable victims either murdered among others and called for a fast of handing and determining such cases
