Architects blame police for not letting them investigate collapsed structures

The Uganda society of Architects is not pleased by Uganda Police continuously denying them access to sites or buildings that have collapsed.

According to Jacinta Kabalungi, the president of the society, blocking them from accessing such scenes of crime has affected them in doing comprehensive investigations to establish causes of such occurrences.

Kabalungi was reacting on the recent building that collapsed two days back on Plot 285 block 254 along Ggaba road in which six people died and three were injured.

She however noted that they made some partial investigations which indicate that the site had been excavated and some minimal reinforcement works from the retaining wall had commenced in what appears to be a basement so there was no evidence of any support mechanism to protect the excavated edges of the soil from collapse
