Renowned Ugandan vlogger Isma Olaxess, also known as Jajja Ichuli who was shot dead by an unidentified gunman in Kyanja central zone on Saturday 6th May 2023. The news of his death has shocked and saddened the country, with hundreds of people gathering in Mukono district on Sunday 7th May 2023 to pay their respects at his funeral.
Isma Olaxess was born in 1970 in Kampala and later moved to Sweden in search of better opportunities. He worked odd jobs, including vending newspapers, before starting his career as a blogger in 2014. He quickly became known for his unapologetic views on politics, social issues, and entertainment, earning him a large following.
His untimely death has left many in shock and mourning, with prominent figures such as Frank Gashumba, Tamale Mirundi, Bebe Cool, Jose Chameleone, and Balaam Barugahara expressing their grief and admiration for his work. Gashumba, in particular, noted that Isma Olaxess was the biggest blogger in Uganda, with an impressive depth of knowledge on sports, politics, and entertainment.
Isma Olaxess was also known for his close relationships with many entertainers in Uganda, who appreciated his passion for promoting the arts. He was a professional painter and held a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from Makerere University, further exemplifying his versatility and intelligence.
The circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear, with investigations ongoing. However, one thing is certain - the loss of Isma Olaxess is a significant one for the Ugandan community, and his legacy as a trailblazing blogger will continue to be felt for years to come.
