Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, speaking at the National Labour Day celebration in Namutumba District, emphasized the need for the government and citizens to focus on creating more jobs to tackle the high unemployment rate in the country. While acknowledging the importance of worker welfare and remuneration, Museveni pointed out that only a small fraction of the population is currently employed, with the rest being unemployed. He urged Ugandans to support government initiatives aimed at creating jobs, such as the Parish Development Model. Museveni also identified corruption within the political class and civil service as a significant hindrance to the country's development and warned that he would take strong action against corrupt officials. The minister for Gender, labour and Social Development, Hon. Betty Amongi, emphasized the need to improve ethical behavior and integrity in the labor force to lower the cost of doing business in the country. The event was attended by several dignitaries, including the Vice President and Chief Justice.
