Jinja Road Police Station has detained two individuals apprehended at Luzira Murchison Bay under suspicion of impersonating police officers from the Counter Terrorism Unit.

The suspects, identified as Mugerwa Don Williams, a driver from Nkumba, and Wamala Twaha, a technician residing in Bayita Ababiri, were taken into custody after Prisons officers noted their suspicious behavior during a visit to colleagues.

Claire Nabaka, deputy police spokesperson, disclosed that the duo, posing as officers, attempted to visit an inmate using false identities.

Mugerwa was found wearing a complete Counter Terrorism Unit uniform, albeit lacking any rank insignia, and carrying a warrant card indicating a rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP). Further investigation at the Region Prisons Commander's office confirmed their non-police status, prompting their arrest by Jinja Road Police Station. Recovered items including black Kaunda suits, warrant cards, and desert shoes were exhibited. Nabaka commended Luzira Prisons' vigilance and urged the public to report any suspicious activities promptly.
