Preliminary investigation by the Uganda Police Force  haverevealed that the convoy of the third highest ranking judicial officer, the Principal Judge Dr Flavian Zeija was hit by an Improvised Explosive Device -IED .

Principal Judge Zeija survived being assassinated after his vehicle was hit along the Kampala - Masaka highway on Sunday April 24, 2022.

Two suspected assassins detonated the IED from two suspected assailants.

Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga told the media in Kampala on Monday,  that upon their search, forensic analysis and investigations by a joint team, they have discovered that it wasn't a gun attack but an explosion of IED that was planted under the guardrail.

A team of CMI, ISO, crime intelligence, counter terrorism, operations responded and cordoned off the scene at Kalandazi. The further assessment of the scene was conducted and established that the attack was a result of devices planted under the road guard rail at a remote area in Kalandazi.

Enanga further adds that the improvised explosive devices were made of pieces of wire, cut pieces of iron bars, nails, shattered aluminium pieces, and plastic bottles.

He says the device could have been planted by yet unknown suspects who monitored the vehicles passing and then detonated it with a remote at around 8:30pm in Buwama parish in Mpigi district.

A case of attempted assassination of the judge Flavian ZeIja was reported at Mpigi police in Katonga region.

"We are now aware of this new kind of threat on our road targeting motorists, the nature of attack with the use of roadside explosives and timing,"   Enanga said.
