PAEB urges students to make adequate preparations

The cumulative number of students who have completed the Certified Public Accountants course in Uganda have now reached 4589.

This is after 134 accountants passed the much sought-after course according to June 2022 Examinations Diet released by the Public Account Examinations Board on Wednesday July 05.

Releasing the exams, ICPAU President, CPA Constant Othieno Mayende said that the Institute is concerned with unfortunate trend of poor performance of student’s key papers including Auditing and other assurance services, Advanced Financial Reporting, Financial Reporting, Principles of Taxation and Principles of Auditing.

CPA Mayende noted that in the mentioned papers students are repeatedly struggling with pass rates attributed to inadequate preparations among students.

4176 students sat for the June 2022 exams but results show that only 2877 managed to pass their papers at all levels.

According to the results 138 candidates attempted accounting technicians diploma and the average pass rate has improve slightly from 51% in December 2021 to 53.2% this sitting.

In terms of gender, out of the 202 passes registered, 48.5% were by female and 104(51.5%) by male. In terms of age, 12 of passes were scored by candidates in the age bracket 18 – 24 years, 54 by candidates in the age bracket 25-29, and 3 were by candidates above 29 years.

For the certified tax advisory-CTA course, they were 86 candidates who sat for the June 2022 examinations compared to 62 in December and 72 in October 2021.

The average pass rate also improved significantly from 26.6% in December 2021 to 44.7% in June 2022.

For the certified public accountants of Uganda –CPA course, 4716 candidates sat June 2022 examinations as compared to 3974 in December and 4026 in October 2021. The results also shows some improvement in 35.5% in December 2021 to 44.7%.

In terms of gender, out of the 2877 passes registered, 1589(55.2%) were by female candidates and 1288(44.8%) are male candidates.

For his part, CPA Geoffrey Byamugisha, chairperson of Public Accountants Examination Board advised students to make adequate preparations and not to just make appearance at examinations venues. ‘’ it is adequate preparation rather than making an appearance that earns one a pass’’ he added.
