Uganda’s Electricity Transmission Company is now is currently operating with only two transmission lines to supply Central and Western Uganda as a result of vandalism by unidentified people.UETCL is licensed to carry out construction, ownership and operation of installations of the high voltage transmission of electricity in Uganda (above 33kV).UETCL is one of the companies that replaced Uganda Electricity Board (UEB) together with Uganda Electricity Generation Company Limited (UEGCL) – Responsible for Power Generation at Kiira 200MW and Nalubaale 180MW power plants.

Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited (UETCL) – Responsible for the grid assets operatingabove 33kV and Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) – Responsible for the gridassets operating at 33kV and below.

The 220kV Bujagali-Kawanda Transmission line was vandalised at 22:11hrs on December 6, 2022, in theareas of Mukono, leaving Tower 133 badly leaning.

UETCL is currently operating with only two transmission lines to supply Central and Western Uganda,but the engineers are putting temporary measures in place to restore the power supply according to the Principal Public Relations Officer · Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development,  Solomon Muyita.

The regrettable Tuesday night incident brings the number of vandalised High Voltage Towers to six in the past 23 days he adds.
