Karamoja Iron Sheet Bonanza; OPM halts distribution

The office of the Prime Minister has temporarily halted the distribution of iron sheets due to the ongoing investigations following reports of theft of the same.

It has been reported that some Ugandan ministers and other government officials were engaged in the theft of iron sheets meant for vulnerable people in the Karamoja region.

This prompted the inspector general of government Betty Olive Namisango Kamya to kick off the investigation exercise over this matter.

According to the statement released by the permanent secretary of the office of the prime minister Geoffrey Sseremba ,the distribution shall resume as soon as the investigating agencies have concluded the exercise.

He also detailed how various regions benefited from the distribution of iron sheets that showed that for the Karamoja region a total of 95658 iron sheets were procured  .

Only 25,514 released, and 70,144 are still stored, for northern uganda 19,170 were procured, 14,647 were released and 4,423 still in store ,for Teso region 4982 iron sheets were procured and out of these ,2086 were released and 2896 still in store, Bunyoro region 9274 ironssheets were procured and all of them were released ,among others.

This comes at a time when members of parliament from Karamoja have called for the resignation of the minister in charge of Karamoja Goretti Kitutu over mismanagement of office .
