Standard Chartered holds Draw for the SC Cup – Road to Anfield 2023” Tournament

Standard Chartered Bank has on 5th October 2023 held draws for the 29 teams that will take part in the 2023 Standard Chartered Cup (Road to Anfield) tournament 

The 2023 Standard Chartered Cup Tournament is a one-day, 10 minute, five-a-side with two substitutes.

The tournament scheduled to take place this Saturday, 7th October 2023 at KCCA grounds starting at 7:00am.

The tournament is designed in a Round Robin structure which is divided into (Group Stages, Round of 16, Quarter finals, Semi Finals and the Finals). 

The teams have therefore been divided into 6 groups with each group being made up of 5 teams.

Multi Choice Ug. Ltd, Roofings Limited, Tororo Cement Ltd, Cheap General Hardware and Letshego Ug. Ltd

GROUP B

UAP Old Mutual Ltd, Bukedde, Nile Breweries Ltd, MTN Mobile Money 1 and Nation Media Group 2

New Vision, Steel & Tube Ltd, Nation Media Group 1, Cipla Quality Chemicals and Uganda Breweries Ltd.

GROUP D

CFAO Motors Ug Ltd, John Barnes, Mildmay Uganda, Seroma Ltd and Sanlam Uganda

GROUP E

Uganda Baati Ltd, Hardware World, MTN Mobile Money 2, City Oil and Malaria Consortium

GROUP F

Nakasero Hospital, Ntake Bakery Co. Ltd, Hima Cement, BRAC Uganda Ltd and Roofing Rolling Mills.

Joel Cornerious Kivumbi, the Edgars Youth Programme Public Relations Manager and Technical Committee Chairperson while addressing the participants said that they have assembled a diligent, competent and dedicated technical team that will oversee the running of the tournament and ensure that set standards are perfectly met. 

“We are extremely proud to be hosting the 6th edition of the SC Cup after we had taken a break due to the pandemic". John Mwesigye the Chief Operations Officer at Standard Chartered and Chairman Organizing committee for the SC Cup noted.

This year the stakes are higher and we are honoured to have a Liverpool legend Steve McManaman join us and hand over the prizes to the winners of the tournament, among other activities. He added

The Head of Corporate Affairs, Brand and Marketing Mrs Margaret Kigozi while unveiling the technical aspects of the tournament reiterated that they don't expect the participating companies to hire non staff and if found, that team will be disqualified.

"They will compete for a chance to win the grand prize of an all-expenses paid trip to watch a match at Anfield, the home of Liverpool Football Club in the UK. She added 

She noted that even though this a fun 10 minute, 5-aside tournament, it tends to be very competitive due to the grand prize. She therefore urged participating teams to prepare adequately.

 All logistics and security are in place and participants are welcome to invite their friends and families to attend.” she further noted.

During the SC Cup tournament, the field layout will have 4 mini pitches of 40 x 30 metres and these shall be named after the current Liverpool Players: Pitch 1. Mohammed Salah, Pitch 2. Alisson Baker, Pitch 3. Virgil van Dijk, Pitch 4. Trent Alexander Arnold.

The Kick off time is scheduled for exactly 8:05am and expected to end at 4:30pm from which the winner will obtain atrophy and proceed to travel to UK – Anfield.
