A couple has been arraigned before Buganda Road Magistrates Court for allegedly defaming the LC1 chairperson of Muyenga in Makindye division, Yasin Omari claiming that he was behind the death of their four year old male child.
Asiimwe Naphitali 49 year old businessman and resident of Kanyogoga zone , Bukasa Parish Makindye division in Kampala district is jointly charged with his wife Asiimwe Judith 31 years.
However, Judith Asimwe being a mother of a 5 months old baby was released on a non cash court bond of 1 million shillings , but her husband Naphitali Asiimwe was remanded to Luzira prison until April 22nd 2024.
The couple is charged alongside a one Ssemata Geofrey also a resident of Bukasa zone in Makindye Kampala District who is already in prison at Luzira.
They are charged with the offence of libel which they denied before the chief magistrate Ronald Kayizzi.
Prosecution states that the trio and others still at large on August 13th 2021 at Muyenga in Makindye Division, with intent to defame Yasin Omari , the chairperson Lc1 Muyenga, unlawfully published or circulated audios and videos that he was behind the death of a four year old child.
Because of political wrangles within their village (Muyenga), the false audios/videos have caused hatred , ridicule , contempt and damaged the reputation of Yasin Omari.
Court heard that the accused persons were circulating vidoes saying that " people should not vote leaders who kill people " the child did not die of child sacrifice to seek for riches or anything. But our child died because of the leadership wrangles in kanyoyoga zone.
