Minister Adoa Commends Feeds Manufacturers, Pledges Support

The Minister of State for Fisheries in the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry, and Fisheries (MAAIF)  also Woman MP- Serere District Hon. Hellen Adoa has commended the Uganda Animal Feeds Manufacturers Association (UGAFMA) for coming together to solve problems with animal feeds on the market.

Members of UGAFMA and partners in the region are meeting at Four Points by Sheraton in Kampala on advancing Uganda's feed and biofuel industries.

Speaking as Chief Guest at the launch of the two-day meeting, Hon. Hellen Adoa said she relates to the private sector and pledges total support for the industry.

According to Adoa, the demand for feed is so high. She, therefore, appealed to UGAFMA and its partners to consider carrying out research on new technologies and see how to expand the industry. "The government will support you," Adoa said.

Marcel Franitza, the Industry Director at Andritz Processing Technology, said that the industry is currently facing a number of challenges, including frequent changes in the ingredients and formulas, which he said are driven by availability and cost. He, therefore, appealed to participants to avoid wastage.

UGAFMA Chairman Aimable Mbarushimana, while speaking at the workshop, said that the country currently has the capacity and the raw materials to produce animal feed locally.

Mbarushimana is confident that with partners such as Andritz, the country can be able to produce feed locally and export to outside markets. "With the Animal Feeds Bill currently before Parliament, we are now going to be producing locally and exporting because we have the right technology," said Mbarushimana.The two-day workshop ends tomorrow, Thursday.
