The Speaker of Parliament Annet Anita Among has blamed the ministers of finance  for failing to meet the traders and resolve their concerns which has led them  to turn to the President and Parliament for help.

The Speaker's concern comes after traders closed the shops protesting the new taxes and the new tax administration system known as Electronic Fiscal Receipting and Invoicing Solution  (EFRIS).

The traders under  KACITA have for more than two weeks vowed to close their shops if they fail to meet President Yoweri Tibuhaburwa Museveni to explain the excessive taxes including the new digital system.

Currently most of the shops down town Kampala are closed in a strike that started today. Mps  Joseph Gonzaga Ssewungu Kalungu west  and Buyamba county MP Ssemwanga Gyaviira asked the government to suspend the EFRIS system  so that traders can first open up while they analyze the system and then decide after the traders have got enough knowledge on the system.

The MPs also want the government to invest in various banks to help traders borrow money at reasonable interest rates to help them run their businesses.

The state  Minister for Trade   David Bahati said  that there are plans to meet the traders and their issues will be dealt with as soon as possible. He  promised to return to Parliament tomorrow to inform MPs of the progress.

Other MPs urged the government to first abolish the tax but expressed the pain the traders are currently experiencing.
