Police in Mbarara have apprehended two individuals for the attempted murder of a 16-year-old boy who was buried alive but miraculously survived. The arrests followed after the victim, Amanya Charles from Kabugye Cell, Sheema District, managed to crawl out of a shallow grave last Thursday.

During a press briefing, police spokesperson Fred Enanga detailed the event. The suspects, Kamuhanda Evans, 17, and Kamuka Apollo, 43, both from Kaliba Cell in Bubaare Subcounty, Sheema District, allegedly assaulted and buried Amanya alive. The boy was found on Saturday and taken to the police, who then transferred him to Bubale Health Center for treatment.

Amanya told the police that he had been assaulted, tied to a tree, and buried alive by the suspects, who accused him of stealing their mobile phones.

Fred Enanga emphasized that the police are pursuing charges of torture, conspiracy, and attempted murder against the suspects. "We wish to inform the public that torture is a punishable crime and can, in most cases, lead to murder. The arrested suspects are believed to have worked with others who are currently on the run, and the police are actively tracing them," Enanga stated.

The police remain committed to ensuring all individuals involved in this heinous act are brought to justice.
