Cairo University To Retrain Ugandan Imams.

The  Cairo-based Al Azhar Sharif University has designed a Refresher  Islamic theology program for imams in Uganda. 

Mohamed Nazeeh Tawfeek, a consular at the Egyptian Embassy in Kampala revealed this during a courtesy visit to the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council-UMSC headquarters where he met Sheikh Juma Bakhit Cucu and Sheikh Muhammad Murshid Luwemba, the UMSC Education and Religious Affairs Secretary respectively. 

He  explained that their visit was meant to renew the many decades of Cooperation between Azhar Sharif University and UMSC. 

He also disclosed that the university didn’t offer any full scholarships to Uganda in the past five years due to scarcity of funds and partly because of the outbreak of the deadly COVID-19 pandemic.

He said that University  has accepted a request from His Eminence Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubajje, in resuming to offer scholarships to Ugandan students he made through Sheikh Azhar Prof Ahmad Twaib and the Grand Mufti of Egypt during his recent visit. 

According to the guests, the university has offered 10 scholarships covering Sharia, Islamic, and Arabic Language studies.

They revealed that  it was an addition to the Islamic Theological Imam refresher training, adding that after every after two months, UMSC will be selecting  20 Imams  to go to Cairo for the training on the best and most appropriate methods to promote the Islamic faith in the digital era to all people regardless of their affiliations and status.

On behalf of His Eminence the Mufti, and the Muslim fraternity, the two officials welcomed the gesture, which they described as timely, and expressed special gratitude to the Egyptian authorities for the preservation of the Cooperation and brotherhood.
