Police Asks public to verify land before purchase

Police have cautioned members of the public who are intending to buy land to always first do the due diligence with relevant authorities on the land they intend to buy before paying money to the seller.

The police caution follows a case reported to Jinja Road police station when a businesswoman identified as Alice Nayebare was conned of shs350 million that he had paid to buy 100 acres of land in Mubende.

According to Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, Nayebare was connected to one Benjamin Kimbowa to be able to purchase 100 acres of land each at UGX 3.5 million but on finishing payments and reaching the ground, 25 of the 100 acres of the land in question were non-existent whereas the remaining 75 acres had squatters.

Owoyesigyire said investigations into the case have kicked off with Kimbowa having recorded a statement and the file it to be sent to the Resident State Attorney for advice before the next course of action.

He however warned members of the public to always first do due diligence before paying for any piece of land to avoid being defrauded.
